the Orchises Press edition Orchises Press

Ulysses:
A Deluxe Facsimile of the 1922 First Edition

Published earlier this year by Orchises Press, this book is as close a replica to a first edition as is possible to produce today. A facsimile of copy #784 (The Oxford World's Classic edition was made from #785), the Orchises Press Ulysses has not been altered from the Sylvia Beach production: all the signature letters have been retained, there have been no "corrections" to broken type, the front matter is in the same sequence as the original, and the colophon has been kept. This gorgeous edition is full size, hardbound, sewn, and printed on 50 lb. Ph balanced paper. It is in a full cloth binding, the front cover of which has been stamped to imitate the lettering on the cover of the fragile paper copies from Shakespeare and Company. The color is somewhat greener than the original, although this is the color of most covers now (because of the oxydation of the paper). Except for lack of deckle edges, is as close a reproduction as offset printing will allow. What will be most important for the majority of readers, however, is that the Orchises Press edition lets you experience what it would have been like to hold, handle, and leisurely read one of the first thousand copies of Ulysses.
